ALTERNATIVE
THERAPIES
Always consider alternative therapies as an approach to your siatic
pain, they have a lot to offer, particularly as the medical profession
tends to play a waiting game with back pain and so you will only get
pain killers and rest as an initial treatment.
- Acupuncture:
This is an ancient therapy that involves insertion of very fine needles
into special points in the body. It can be used to treat siatica by
relieving pain and stimulating healing. It is a very safe therapy in
trained hands and at worst can do no harm. It can be used safely for
pain from a prolapsed disc, spinal stenosis, piriformis syndrome,
sacroiliac strain and trigger points. it can be particularly effective
at treating the last three causes.
- Osteopathy:
This therapy focuses on the treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal
disorders of all types and strives to restore the optimal functioning
of the body. Osteopaths use touch, physical manipulation, stretching
and massage to increase mobility. All causes of siatica can be
approached with osteopathy but a qualified osteopath would not be
likely to use physical manipulation on a prolapsed disk as this would
potentially cause harm.
